THE ENSEMBLE FOR THE ROMANTIC CENTURY, NOW IN ITS 22nd SEASON,
HAS SET OUT TO ACHIEVE THE IMPOSSIBLE:
TIME TRAVEL.

ERC’s innovative works merge dramatic and fully staged plays with music, recapturing the past with a sense of immediacy that transports illuminates, and captivates. Our productions are about real artists, thinkers, and political and social figures whose irreverent, defiant, often non-conformist, and tempestuous personalities define our world. Stories drawn from historical documents – letters, memoirs, poetry, literature, and intimate diaries – are interwoven in an intricate counterpoint to the music. The subject matter spans centuries - from Tolstoy to Toscanini, from Verne to Van Gogh, from Dracula to Warhol – from Emily Dickinson to Peggy Guggenheim - all brought to life through the fusion of drama and sound.  ERC is transforming the theater experience!

The Romantic Century was about imagination and experimentation. Elevating the human condition through art: that is the spirit we hope to summon.

“Exquisite. Exudes an uncanny beauty and emotionalism.” -The New York Times
